Description From Owner:

  • Pop. 371. In Camden T., Lennox and Addington Cs., on C. Rd. 14, 35 km NW of Kingston.
  • The place was settled around 1830 by United Empire Loyalist Orin Jackson, who built a sawmill.
  • The community was first known as Thompson's Corners after Robert Thompson, who opened the first store. When the post office was established in 1854, residents felt their community should have a more suitable name.
  • A visitor remarked that the hamlet was a 'most enterprising place' and Thompson suggested that Enterprise should be its name. It was known locally as 'Shirttail Corners' until the 1930s.
  • From Ontario Place Names 2007 David E. Scott Ph. 866 471 4123 or 905 680 7884
