- Pop. 696. In Portland T., Frontenac C. on C. Rds. 5 & 38, 15 km. NW of Kingston.
- Brian Spike is believed to have been the first settler, arriving in 1811, and after whom, for a time, the place was called Spike's Corners.
- In 1840 the village was laid out in blocks and renamed Harrowsmith to honour Sir Henry (Harry) Smith of Kingston, one of the original members of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
